Card of the Day - Hippo Happiness

Hello and welcome back! Today's card is based on one of my favorite puns from when I was younger. Some of you may remember this Sandra Boynton illustration:

For one of my friends from waaaay back in elementary school, this was a greeting used by her family for many years, so when I saw the Hippo Happiness stamp set in the new Annual Catalog, I knew I would have a use for it. I had planned on CASEing the card in the catalog, but then these two challenges popped up and I decided to be a bit more creative. Here's the card:

I was inspired by the In Color challenge at Fab Friday and the sketch challenge at the Paper Players.

I have managed to use all of the In Colors - Bumblebee ribbon, Cinnamon Cider ewes and DSP, Just Jade sponged for grass and DSP, Magenta Madness for the hippo - because who doesn't love a bright pink hippo! - and Misty Moonlight sponged for the sky and the stamped sentiment.

I wish I could see the look on her face when this card arrives in the mail - I hope she loves it!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day!

Tic Tac Toe Challenge #70

Hello and welcome back! Today's card came together on kind of a dare. I have long been an admirer of Shannon and when I saw her latest creation, I went to check it out on her blog. It was a card she had created for the Tic Tac Toe Challenge, and she had created the board for this week. One of the rows was kind of random and she offered a surprise to anyone who could use it. So I have taken up the challenge! Here's my card:

And here is the board for the challenge:

I have chosen the top row. The polka dots are in the embossing on the bottom layer, the fruit is in the cherries on the DSP in the middle layer, and the bicycle is in the stamped image.

I felt like the layers were too plain on their own, so I wrapped the bakers twine around the layers and tied the bow, then attached the tails on the back.

I've rejoined the #imbringingbirthdaysback "movement," so this card will be going out this week. It's number 133 of birthday cards, and 263 of my total for the year.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day!

Card of the Day - Happy 40th Anniversary!

Hello and welcome back! When you reach a certain age, your friends start celebrating milestone anniversaries. We've had a few 40th's over the last couple of years and this month there are two more. Forty is the ruby anniversary, so I knew I needed something with red. Here's the card:

The Meant to Be stamp set and coordinating framelits were meant for Valentine's Day, but I think they are great for anniversary cards. I used some of the Lovely Lipstick foil paper that was in last year's Sale-A-Bration catalog, embossed it, and layered it with Early Espresso. For some reason, this combination makes me think of a box of chocolates! I added the sentiment and a lace bow, then popped a few of the tiny hearts on as well.

I think this picture shows the actual color of the foil paper better. My son left his photo light box up with the LED lights, so I figured I might as well take advantage of it!

These will be popped in the mail this weekend, along with some more birthday cards. June is a really busy month, but I'm trying hard to keep up!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day!

Card of the Day - Wedding Bells!

Hello and welcome back! Today's card is for an old friend's daughter's wedding. We were really looking forward to attending the celebration this weekend, but the coronavirus has put a damper on that. The party has been postponed until next year but the wedding will still take place this week. Here's the card:

I used the Bird Ballad Laser-Cut Card as a base and added a layer of Very Vanilla inside the front panel. The foliage is die cut from Certainly Celery cardstock (from my retired stash) and the labels are die cut from Very Vanilla. I added a couple of pearls and a lace bow for some additional texture.

I'm entering this card in the Just Add Ink challenge this week. My added "F" is foliage and frills!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day!

Card of the Day - Forever Blossoms

Hello and welcome back! Today's card is for my son and daughter-in-law's 4th wedding anniversary. It seems like just yesterday that we flew to the Seattle area for the beautiful outdoor ceremony - time sure flies! Anyway, here's the card:

I have so many stamp sets that have never seen ink - I need to do something about that! This sentiment from Beautiful Bouquet is one of my favorites for anniversary cards (the inside says "...it's in the staying there."). This card is pretty simple but gave me a chance to do some coloring with Stampin' Blends. I think I'm finally get the hang of it!

I added the vellum die cut under the flowers and dry embossed it for some texture, and to make it show up better.

This card is for the designer's choice challenge at SUO, the tic-tac-toe challenge at Paper Players (diagonal from upper left to lower right, plus a bit of silver in the ribbon), and the vellum die cuts challenge at TGIFC.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day!

Card of the Day - Ornate Garden birthday

Hello and welcome back! Today I've got another birthday card - time to start sending June cards. So far this year I have sent out 222 cards, 113 of those have been for birthdays. Keeping myself out of trouble!

I purchased the Ornate Garden suite during the pre-order so I thought I'd use some of it. This card uses the Ornate Style stamp set, the Ornate Frames and Ornate Labels dies, and the Ornate Floral embossing folder. The colors were inspired by the challenge at Color Throwdown and the design by the sketch at Sunday Stamps Challenge.

I added a bit of Basic Black marker on the edges of the white diecuts to make them stand out a bit more. In the photo it just looks like more shadow, but it is evident on the actual card.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day!
